Apple has had an interesting year with its first-party iPhone cases and accessories, but now they are taking it up a notch with the introduction of the iPhone Pocket. In a collaboration with Issey Miyake's design house, Apple has created a unique 3D-knitted construction that harkens back to the 2004 iPod Socks, but with a modern twist in the form of a crossbody strap. This collaboration is so significant that Apple felt the need to issue a dedicated press release for the iPhone Pocket. The design features a ribbed open structure inspired by the original pleats by ISSEY MIYAKE, with the ability to expand to fit more than just an iPhone. The playful color palette and versatile strap options allow users to wear the iPhone Pocket in various ways. "The design of iPhone Pocket emphasizes the connection between the user and their iPhone, while maintaining a universal aesthetic and versatile functionality," said Yoshiyuki Miyamae, design director of MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO. "It explores the concept of wearing the iPhone in a personalized way, leaving room for individual interpretation and possibilities." Despite its artistic aspirations, the price of the iPhone Pocket may be a deterrent for some. The short-strap version is priced at $149.95, while the long-strap version goes up to $229.95. This limited-edition release will be available in select Apple flagship stores and online in a few countries. While reminiscent of the iPod Socks, the iPhone Pocket represents a new era of Apple's foray into fashion accessories. The limited availability and high price point set it apart from the more casual iPod cozies of the past.
