Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Team Ninja have unveiled the release date for Nioh 3, the next installment in their captivating fantasy series set in feudal Japan. Nioh 3 is currently being developed for Windows PC (via Steam) and Sony's PS5, with the launch date scheduled for February 6th, 2026. Here's a brief overview of the upcoming game, along with a brand new trailer: In Nioh 3, players will step into the shoes of Tokugawa Takechiyo, on the path to becoming the next Shogun in the tumultuous Sengoku period of Japan. As Takechiyo's younger brother, Tokugawa Kunimatsu, driven by a deep-seated animosity towards his brother's rise to power, plans a treacherous coup. Empowered by dark forces, Kunimatsu leads a horde of yokai in a brutal attack on Takechiyo, shattering the peace and plunging Japan into chaos. Guided by the mystical guardian spirit Kusanagi, Takechiyo must transcend time to survive this dire situation and claim his rightful place as Shogun. The narrative of Nioh 3 promises to be grander in scale than ever before in the series. Encompassing various historical eras and regions, the game will feature iconic locations such as Edo Castle and the Tōtōmi region during the Sengoku period, as well as the recently revealed Kyoto from the Heian period. Players will have the freedom to explore these diverse environments in an open-world setting. Throughout his perilous journey to thwart his brother's machinations, Takechiyo will confront formidable yokai and formidable adversaries, all while tackling the challenges of the Crucible. Along the way, players will encounter a cast of characters from different time periods, including legendary figures like Takeda Shingen, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, and Minamoto no Yoritomo. Fans can also expect appearances from familiar faces such as Hattori Hanzo, Honda Tadakatsu, and Saito Fuku. Additionally, actors Tao Tsuchiya and Kanata Hongo will lend their talents to portray Himiko, the enigmatic queen of Yamatai-koku, and Kunimatsu Tokugawa, respectively. To celebrate this announcement, two behind-the-scenes videos have been released. In addition to the standard edition, players can opt for the Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes bonus content such as armor sets, accessories, and exclusive DLCs. A SteelBook® edition is also available for pre-order, featuring additional bonus DLCs.
