Salesforce announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Informatica, a cloud data management company, for approximately $8 billion in equity. The deeper dive into the tech underlying the deal involves strengthening Data Cloud's leadership in the customer data platform space, elevating Agentforce, augmenting Salesforce's Customer 360 CRM, governing understanding for MuleSoft, and providing context-rich insights for Tableau users. SnapLogic CEO Gaurav Dhillon, co-founder of Informatica, expressed mixed feelings about the deal, acknowledging the potential benefits while also recognizing the challenges it may pose for customers. He emphasized the importance of having a single platform for application and data integration, but noted that the process of combining legacy platforms like MuleSoft and Informatica will be complex and time-consuming. Overall, Salesforce aims to integrate Informatica's technology quickly and efficiently to drive AI-driven growth and deliver sustained benefits to stakeholders. The deal is expected to close early in the first quarter of Salesforce's fiscal 2027, pending regulatory approval and other conditions.
