Ubisoft has announced that three classic Far Cry games will be receiving an update to run at 60 frames per second. The games in question are Far Cry 3, Far Cry Blood Dragon, and Far Cry Primal, although no specific details regarding the release date or platform for these updates have been provided. Ubisoft certainly knows how to make an announcement with style, using a cat purring emoji in their reveal. Far Cry 5 received a 60fps update in 2023, while Far Cry 6 was launched with a 60fps mode. Rumors circulated in 2023 that Far Cry 7 would be split into two separate games: Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7) and Project Maverick, a standalone multiplayer game potentially connected to Far Cry 7. Ubisoft has a strong focus on creating massive multiplayer live service games that can be sustained with regular content updates over many years. It comes as no surprise that they are exploring the idea of a multiplayer Far Cry title. Insider sources also suggest that the game will utilize the Frostbite engine instead of the aging Dunia engine, aligning with Ubisoft's strategy of streamlining their game development processes. Far Cry 7 is reportedly set in the "Alaskan wilderness" and described as an extraction-based shooter with features such as permadeath, a backpack system, contracts, and more. During a presentation at the New Global Sport Conference in September 2025, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot emphasized the multiplayer aspects of Far Cry 7, indicating a strong focus on creating a game that can be enjoyed over an extended period of time. Recently, Far Cry, along with Assassin's Creed and Rainbow Six, were consolidated under a new company within Ubisoft. This new business unit will oversee all past titles in these series, as well as any future developments. Source: X
