Enhanced Gaming Experience with Steam Link Update
Valve’s Steam Link service has received a significant update, offering improvements for a better gaming experience across various devices. Despite discontinuing the original Steam Link hardware, Valve remains committed to refining its streaming service app.
The latest version, 1.3.12, of Steam Link now supports over 500 Android devices and includes setting recommendations based on network test results. Additionally, the update introduces a “WiFi lock” feature to prevent interruptions during streaming.
Valve has extended its support beyond Android devices with the inclusion of features like video streaming using the AV1 codec for high-end PCs, HDR streaming on Windows systems, and the option to disable low-latency audio.
The new version of Steam Link also adds compatibility with the Nintendo Switch Pro controller and provides surround sound support for Android TV devices. Language features such as Indonesian translation and an English fallback option for non-latin fonts have been included as well.
User feedback highlights the reintroduction of HEVC encoding in the Steam Link app. While AV1 encoding may not work on certain portable devices, Meta headsets are expected to be compatible with this multimedia technology.
Valve has expanded its support to Raspberry Pi devices, offering a new build designed to run on Raspberry Pi 3 to Raspberry Pi 5. This version includes similar improvements found in the Android update.
Steam Link, originally launched in 2015, continues to evolve with Valve’s commitment to providing a free streaming service for PC gamers. The introduction of Steam Link Anywhere service in 2018 further expanded the accessibility of Steam games on Android devices.
