In December 2024, Netflix surprised Squid Game fans with the announcement of a highly-anticipated second season of the Korean show. But the story doesn’t end there, as the series is set to return with its third and final season.
The dystopian show follows a group of civilians competing for a massive cash prize of 45.6 billion won. They face deadly challenges in twisted versions of children’s games, where losing means facing fatal consequences.
This time around, the competition will have new challenges and a hint of revolution that could bring an end to the game once and for all.
If you’re eager to know when the show will return, which characters will be back, and what to expect from the upcoming season, we’ve got all the details you need.
When will Squid Game season 3 be released?
The third and final season of Squid Game is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2025. While the exact release date has not been officially confirmed, a leak suggests it could be on 27 June 2025. This rapid release is due to both seasons being filmed back-to-back, essentially forming one continuous story.
Showrunner Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that he originally envisioned the series as a single season but it evolved into a longer story, leading to separate seasons.
Stay tuned for updates on the release date as more information becomes available.

Is there a trailer for Squid Game season 3?
As of now, Netflix has not released a trailer for the upcoming season. Fans can revisit the season 2 trailer to refresh their memories of Gi-hun’s journey.
What will the plot of Squid Game season 3 be?
After the events of the previous seasons, Gi-hun finds himself in a critical situation. Devastated by loss and betrayal, he must decide his next move in the deadly game. As he faces new challenges and adversaries, Gi-hun’s character will undergo significant changes.
The third season will likely explore themes of revenge, redemption, and the fight against the oppressive system behind the game. With the support of allies like Hwang Jun-ho, Gi-hun will continue his quest to bring down the game’s organizers.
Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk hints at a transformative journey for Gi-hun and the introduction of new obstacles in the upcoming season.
As for the storyline of the third season, Gi-hun having lost everything, including his best friend, and all of his attempts going to failure, it’s now: what is he going to be like?
What state is Gi-hun going to be in? And what will he choose to do? Will he continue on with the mission? Is he going to give up or persist? And so you’re going to meet our character Gi-hun at a very critical crossroads as we begin the third season. Gi-hun will not be the man he was in season 2.
If you saw the hidden clip after the ending credits roll after the last episode of season 2 – if you watch that clip, it’s going to give you a slight hint as to where season 3 might take you. I think that’s all I can say, for now.
Additionally, a post-credits scene teases a new game with even more challenges for the characters to face.
As the story unfolds, fans can expect twists, betrayals, and high-stakes drama in the final season of Squid Game.
