1047 Games is gearing up for another attempt, as they recently announced that the beta for Splitgate 2 will be ending on December 4th, with a full relaunch scheduled for later in the month – my bet is on a launch during The Game Awards, what do you think?
In a brief announcement on Steam, the team expressed their gratitude to everyone who participated in the Splitgate 2 Beta, stating, “On December 4th, the Beta Season and active Battle Passes will come to a close, along with your seasonal rank progress.”
This upcoming relaunch will mark Splitgate 2’s second debut, following a rocky initial release earlier this year. The game was launched during Summer Game Fest in a manner that ruffled some feathers – particularly with the studio founder calling out the industry and introducing a battle royale mode that many felt was following a trend. With various gameplay changes that didn’t resonate well, the game struggled, leading to 1047 reverting it back to beta and unfortunately, laying off several employees.
So, what’s different this time around? For the final targeted beta weekend, 1047 outlined the adjustments they’ve made:
Since the beta launch in May, the game has undergone significant transformations. We have refocused on what makes Splitgate unique: portals, movement, and pure gunplay.
Here’s a breakdown of the changes. Factions have been removed entirely, and abilities have been reimagined as power-ups. Classic roundless modes like King of the Hill, Domination, and Team Deathmatch have made a return. Classic Arena, an even-starts mode reminiscent of the original Splitgate, has been added. New maps, weapons, menu reworks, and system refinements have been implemented based on player feedback.
Portal overloading and EMPs have been introduced, altering map control dynamics. Equipment has been streamlined for better combat clarity. Controller feel has been fine-tuned. Critical bugs have been fixed, and numerous optimizations have been made.
None of this would have been possible without your input. The past six months have been a collaborative journey, with every piece of feedback, playtest participation, and community discussion shaping our current state. Splitgate is now in its best form ever, thanks to your continued support.
It appears that the game has undergone a significant overhaul, returning to its core gameplay mechanics and genre roots. Splitgate 1 initially gained popularity for its resemblance to Halo’s classic arena shooter style and its innovative portals feature.
