Sony is Permanently Slashing PSVR 2 by $150 in March, Including 'Horizon Call of the Mountain' Bundle

Sony has made a significant announcement today regarding the permanent price drop of the PSVR 2, which will now be available for $400 starting next month. This marks a notable decrease from its original launch price of $550 nearly two years ago.

Interestingly, the price reduction applies to both the basic PSVR bundle, which includes the headset, two Sense controllers, and headphones, as well as the Horizon Call of the Mountain hardware bundle. The latter was initially priced at $600 when the headset was first released in February 2023.

While Sony emphasizes the high-quality content available for PSVR 2 at the new price, such as Skydance’s Behemoth, Metro Awakening VR, and Alien: Rogue Incursion, as well as upcoming titles like Aces of Thunder, Dreams of Another, Hitman World of Assassination, and The Midnight Walk, there is a noticeable lack of full support from the company.

Despite a few first-party titles like Horizon Call of the Mountain and VR modes for Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 Remake, Sony’s commitment to PSVR 2 seems less robust compared to its support for the original PSVR released in 2016. The original PSVR saw titles like Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Blood & Truth, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, PlayStation VR Worlds, VR Playroom, and VR modes for Gran Turismo Sport and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

However, Sony did release a PC Adapter last August for $60, allowing users to connect to a VR-ready PC and play SteamVR games like Half-Life: Alyx and Fallout 4 VR. This move hints at a potential shift in Sony’s approach towards PSVR 2 and its integration with the broader PS5 ecosystem.

Despite the current price drop, there may be further discounts in the future that could boost sales, similar to the increase seen during the recent Holiday Season. If discounts continue, we could see PSVR 2 priced as low as $232, making it an attractive option for both existing PS5 players and newcomers.
