Somebody recreated all of GTA 4's Liberty City in GTA 5 aaaaand it's gone

Today, I discovered a fascinating mod called the GTA 5 Liberty City Preservation Project, only to learn that it has been shut down by the publishers on the same day. This project, which took six years to complete, recreated GTA 4’s Liberty City within the world of GTA 5. Unfortunately, Rockstar intervened and took down the mod, ending the project. It’s reminiscent of when my brother once playfully took me down, and I still feel the effects.

According to PCGamer, team member NK Jellman announced the closure of the project on the Discord channel. “Due to the unexpected attention our project received and after discussions with Rockstar Games, we have decided to take down the Liberty City Preservation project,” he stated. Despite this setback, the team remains grateful for the support and is committed to continuing their passion for modding the Grand Theft Auto series.

Despite the positive tone of the announcement, it’s clear that six years of hard work have come to an end. Jellman clarified that there is no animosity between World Travel and Rockstar Games / Take-Two Interactive, emphasizing that the takedown was mutually agreed upon.

Before its removal, the GTA 5 Liberty City Preservation Project successfully recreated GTA 4’s Liberty City in GTA 5, complete with all its elements such as NPCs, the subway, police forces, civilian traffic, car models, radio stations, and optional HD textures, all available for free.

Rockstar and Take-Two are known for cracking down on ambitious GTA mods, but the reasons behind a “friendly takedown” remain unclear. This isn’t the only Liberty City mod for GTA 5, leading to speculation about Rockstar’s plans for GTA 4 updates or GTA 6 development.
