Similarities between Light of Motiram and Horizon have been wiped

The Controversy Surrounding Light of Motiram

In a surprising turn of events, Tencent found themselves in hot water after unveiling their game, Light of Motiram, in December 2024. The gaming community was quick to point out the striking similarities between Light of Motiram and Sony’s Horizon series. From the red-haired protagonist to the mechanical beasts and gliding mechanics, it was evident that Tencent had borrowed heavily from Sony’s popular franchise.

Sony wasted no time in taking legal action against Tencent, accusing them of creating a “slavish clone” that could potentially confuse consumers. Despite Tencent’s attempt to pitch a new Horizon game to Sony in the past, the tech giant declined the offer, prompting Tencent to develop Light of Motiram independently. Sony’s response to the situation led to a series of negotiations between the two companies, with Tencent eventually revisiting their Horizon pitch to Sony.

Fast forward to the present day, and Tencent has made significant changes to Light of Motiram in response to the lawsuit. The Steam store page now features a revamped description that steers clear of any direct references to Horizon. The once-prominent mechanimals and Aloy-like heroine have been removed, leaving a more generic description of the game’s survival challenges and formidable bosses.

It remains to be seen how this legal battle will unfold, but one thing is certain – the gaming industry is always rife with drama and surprises.
