Sightful Cancels Spacetop G1 AR Laptop, Shifts Focus to Software

Sightful, the hardware startup known for its innovative AR products, has made the decision to cancel its highly anticipated Spacetop G1 AR laptop. The $1,900 device was set to be the company’s first commercially available product, but after careful consideration, Sightful has chosen to focus on a new direction.

Originally unveiled in May, the Spacetop G1 was designed to offer a unique ‘headless AR laptop’ experience. However, the company has announced that it will be refunding pre-order customers who had put down $100 deposits for the device.

Sightful cites challenges in competing with Microsoft’s neural processing units (NPU) integrated into their latest Surface laptops as a key factor in the cancellation of Spacetop G1. The company now plans to shift its focus to developing software for Windows laptops that will offer a similar AR experience.

Set to launch in early 2025, the new software will be compatible with Xreal AR glasses via USB-C and is expected to integrate with Microsoft’s CoPilot AI features. Sightful also hints at potential expansion beyond laptops to devices like TVs and phones in the future.

With $61 million in funding secured to date, Sightful remains committed to delivering cutting-edge AR technology and looks forward to unveiling its new software product in the coming year.
