Shapeshift while chatting to surreal, conversational mortals to figure out where God went in Burden Street Station

Selling a Game in One Sentence: Burden Street Station

Selling a game in just one sentence is no easy task. Do you focus on the genre, specific mechanics, or an intriguing element of the story? There’s no right answer! However, a single sentence that quickly sold me on a game called Burden Street Station is: “A surreal, narrative adventure game where you shapeshift during conversations to uncover how God went missing.”

This line is a stunner! The concept of God going missing and the implication that it is your responsibility to solve the mystery speaks volumes in a few words. It hints at the genre, narrative adventure, and introduces the shapeshifting mechanic. Personally, that’s all I need to be convinced, but let’s delve deeper into the game.

This is Burden Street Station
A surreal game where you mostly help all sorts of freaks come to terms with the fact that god no longer exists.
and you’ll get to know more about it very, very soon.

In the world of Burden Street Station, moments from mortal lives are turned into sentient books, which are then sold to Gods for entertainment. However, the production of these books halts, and the God vanishes. You, along with a sentient book, must engage with the inhabitants of this world to uncover the truth.

The game shows influences from Myst and ’90s PC adventure games, with a touch of modern series like ENA. Mechanically, you can alter parts of your body during conversations to unlock different dialogue options, some of which are delightfully irreverent and sarcastic, reminiscent of ’90s dialogue.

A demo for Burden Street Station will be available on December 2nd, so let’s all head to Steam and give it a try, or at least wishlist it in the meantime.
