Samsung Preps iPhone-Style Spatial Videos & Photos for "Galaxy XR Headset", Leak Suggests

A Sneak Peek at Samsung’s New 3D Capture Feature for Galaxy XR Headsets

Samsung has recently leaked a new feature for some of its smartphones that is expected to allow users to capture 3D images and videos specifically for the upcoming “Galaxy XR headsets,” as reported by SamMobile.

Last year, Samsung unveiled its upcoming XR headset, codenamed ‘Project Moohan’ (Korean for ‘Infinite’), which is set to compete with Apple Vision Pro later this year.

While details such as the release date, pricing, and official name of the mixed reality headset remain a mystery, a recent leak discovered by SamMobile’s Asif Iqbal Shaik suggests that Samsung smartphones may soon have the ability to capture 3D photos and videos similar to what the iPhone offers for Vision Pro.

Shaik discovered that the latest version (4.0.0.3) of the Camera Assistant app contains a hidden option to capture content specifically for “Galaxy XR headsets,” initially found in an update on the Galaxy S25 FE. By transferring the APK file to a Galaxy S25 Ultra, the option becomes visible, as shown above.

Despite speculation about the variety of Galaxy XR headsets, Samsung has reiterated multiple times since the unveiling of Project Moohan in late 2024 that the mixed reality headset will indeed be released later this year. This recent software slip may be seen as an effort by the company to match Vision Pro feature-for-feature on its range of competing smartphones upon launch.

Expected to be the first XR headset running on Google’s Android XR operating system, Moohan’s release may be sooner than anticipated. A report from Korea’s Newsworks suggests that the device will be featured at a Samsung product event on September 29th. Notably, Moohan was absent from Samsung’s recent Galaxy event, where the Galaxy S25 FE, Galaxy Tab S11, and Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra were unveiled.

Newsworks also proposes that Moohan may debut first in South Korea on October 13th, with a price range of ₩2.5 to ₩4 million South Korean won (approximately $1,800 to $2,900 USD), followed by a global rollout.
