Same-date PC ports of PS5 games remain unlikely, as Sony talk up "thoughtful" multiplatform approach despite Xbox comparisons

PlayStation executives are sticking to their current strategy of releasing multiplatform games, which means we are unlikely to see Sony’s big single-player games coming to PC on the same day as console releases anytime soon.

While multiplayer and live-service games like Helldivers 2 have been available on PC from the start, single-player titles like God of War Ragnarok and Ghost of Tsushima usually take a year to make their way to other platforms.

According to Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation’s studio business group, they are choosing to maintain exclusivity for their big single-player games for a year in order to keep the demand for PS5 high. This decision sets them apart from Xbox’s approach of releasing games on multiple platforms simultaneously.

“Our flagship single-player titles are a key differentiator for the PlayStation console, showcasing the performance and quality of the hardware. We are thoughtful about how and when we make these titles available on other platforms,” Hulst explained.

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hideaki Nishino echoed this sentiment, stating that they will continue to listen to players to ensure they are meeting their needs effectively.

The issue of PlayStation’s reputation among gamers, particularly regarding mandatory PSN account linking for games like Helldivers 2 on PC, is something the company is aware of and working to address.

While some PC gamers may have to wait longer for Sony’s exclusive titles, the decision to prioritize the PlayStation console market makes sense for the company in the long run.
