Resident Evil Requiem gets new background details in first developer diary

Capcom has unveiled new insights into Resident Evil Requiem through a developer diary, shedding light on the highly anticipated sequel. Director Koshi Nakanishi, art director Tomonori Takano, and producers Masachika Kawata and Masato Kumazawa offer their perspectives on the game.

Here are the latest updates and the developer diary video:

The team behind Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth installment in the renowned survival horror series, shared fresh details about the upcoming release scheduled for February 27, 2026, on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The game is designed to deliver an intense experience of fear, placing horror at its core.

The developers also introduced Grace Ashcroft, the new protagonist of the series, an FBI intelligence analyst who is shy and easily frightened, offering a different character dynamic to the Resident Evil universe. Players will witness horror through Grace’s eyes as she confronts her fears throughout the narrative. Despite her timid nature, she is skilled with firearms and relies on deductive reasoning to maintain composure in challenging situations.

The team’s dedication to realism is evident in intricate details such as the flush on Grace’s face while hanging upside down and the natural movement of her hair, meticulously crafted using a custom wig as a reference.

As previously mentioned, players can seamlessly switch between first-person and third-person perspectives during gameplay. Get up close and personal with the horror in first-person mode or opt for an action-packed experience with the over-the-shoulder camera in third-person view.

Set three decades after the Sterilization Missile wiped out Raccoon City to contain the t-virus outbreak, Resident Evil Requiem pays homage to the characters affected by the original disaster, honoring those who perished or underwent drastic transformations. With the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil series approaching in March 2026, Resident Evil Requiem stands as a significant milestone in the franchise’s history.

Resident Evil Requiem is currently in development for Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, with a scheduled release date of February 27, 2026.
