Remedy unveil wacky co-op shooter FBC: Firebreak, set in the Control universe

Remedy, the developers behind Alan Wake, have announced their debut multiplayer game, a three-person co-op shooter set in the world of Control. Previously known as Condor, the game is now titled FBC: Firebreak. I suggest they shorten it to Firebreak for easier writing. And before anyone points out that Remedy worked on Smilegate’s multiplayer shooter CrossfireX, it’s worth noting they only handled the single-player aspects.

Firebreak puts players in the role of first responders at the Federal Bureau of Control, tasked with combating paranormal threats in the Oldest House. Players can utilize Overwatch-style “ultimates” in the form of Altered World objects with “paranatural” properties.

The game will receive post-release content updates, but Remedy is adamant that it is not a game-as-a-service. Instead, Firebreak aims to be a pick-up-and-play experience focused on fun with friends without the need for extensive setup.

While Firebreak features a narrative set after the events of Control, it is not as story-driven as its predecessor. The game will offer a different perspective on the world of Control, exploring new aspects of the Federal Bureau of Control and the Oldest House.

Overall, Firebreak promises a balance of absurdity and horror, drawing players into a world filled with weird phenomena and challenging gameplay. It’s a standalone experience that aims to complement the existing lore of Control without overshadowing it with live-service elements.
