Are you on the lookout for a new game to capture your interest after Transport Tycoon (or OpenTTD)? While there are numerous railway management sims available on Steam, none have quite hit the mark for me yet. Could Railroad Corporation 2 be the one? This train tycoon game allows you to lay tracks during the early 20th century and will be launching in Early Access on September 9th.
If you’ve dabbled in similar games before, you know the drill. Build your own railroad empire by laying tracks, purchasing trains, hiring staff, and efficiently transporting goods between towns and trade depots. Railroad Corporation 2 introduces a twist with its turn-of-the-century backdrop, where you must continuously upgrade your assets to outpace your rivals as railway electrification transforms the industry.
Expanding your operations goes beyond simply extending tracks; it also involves developing the cities connected by your railway network. Construct factories, hospitals, banks, and power plants to support your infrastructure and facilitate growth.
Although details about its Early Access roadmap are scarce on the Steam page, the game is set to be refined and expanded “over the course of the year.” The initial release will feature four campaign missions and online multiplayer supporting up to four players in cooperative or competitive modes.
I must admit that I missed out on the original Railroad Corporation back in 2019, but it appears to have garnered a positive rating from user reviews on Steam. Let’s hope that the sequel doesn’t encounter any derailments along the way!
