Quest users have been eagerly anticipating a more efficient way to manage windowed content for improved web browsing and app usage. While users on the Public Test Channel (PTC) have had access to this feature since late June, the rest of the Quest community will be able to enjoy it with the upcoming v67 update rolling out next week.
Update (July 4th, 2024): Meta has announced that the update will start rolling out during the week of July 8th for Quest 2/3/Pro. This update will introduce a new “hinged” layout that allows users to arrange up to three panels, as well as the ability to place three additional panels anywhere on the screen. The flexible window feature can be found under Settings in the Experimental section when it becomes available.
Additionally, the update will include a ‘Theater View’ button on the control bar, enabling users to expand a panel’s size and dim the background.
Other features of the update include Swipe Typing, which allows users to spell words by sliding their finger or cursor from letter to letter, and a new Wi-Fi QR code scanner for Quest 3 users, accessible through Settings under Wi-Fi by tapping on Scan QR Code.

Meta originally introduced multitasking support in early 2020, allowing users to dock multiple windows in three designated areas. Luna observed that in the early access release, users can have up to three docked panels and three freely placeable panels, providing more flexibility in setting up their virtual workspace.
Another upcoming feature is a new virtual keyboard that offers the option to place the keyboard vertically or at an angle for easier typing.
The new keyboard interaction is really nice, I hope panels get this tilt adjustment feature as well! https://t.co/DYDtlfLLVj pic.twitter.com/djmnvtAVXt

To access these features before the stable release, users can enroll in the PTC. If you haven’t done so yet, Meta provides a quick guide for signing up for Quest PTC from the mobile app:
To sign up for Quest PTC eligibility from the mobile app:
- Open the mobile app, tap Menu in the bottom-right corner, then tap Devices.
- Tap Headset settings, then tap Advanced settings.
- Tap the toggle next to Public Test Channel to join Quest PTC.
- If the toggle is unavailable, Quest PTC is currently at full capacity and not accepting new participants.
Once enrolled, simply navigate to Settings > Experimental Features > New Window Layout, and toggle the feature to activate it.
If you are on the PTC and have not yet received these features, remember to check for updates regularly, as Meta typically rolls out early access and stable OS updates gradually.
