Quest is Getting an Official ‘Discord’ App Next Year

Meta Announces Discord Integration Coming to Quest in 2026

Last May, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth expressed his desire for Quest to have Discord integration, leaving it up to Discord to make the first move. At this year’s Connect event, Meta revealed that Discord will officially be coming to Quest in 2026.

While Quest users currently have the option to log into Discord through the web browser, it’s not the most seamless experience. However, Discord has confirmed that a native window app will be available on Quest next year, making multitasking easier for users. This feature will allow users to keep apps in view while playing VR games, eliminating the need to exit or pause the game in progress.

Meta views the integration of Discord on Quest as a significant opportunity for VR developers, given Discord’s large user base in the gaming community. With over 200 million monthly active players and 1.9 billion hours spent playing games each month on PC alone, Discord on Quest opens up new possibilities for developers.

While specifics beyond basic multitasking have not been confirmed, the release of a native app hints at additional functionalities that PC players currently enjoy. Features such as game presence support, improved performance, persistence, and system-level notifications for messages and calls could potentially be included.

However, some wishlist items like streaming headset POV to Discord or utilizing Quest’s ‘avatar selfie cam’ for video chats may be challenging to implement. Despite this, users can look forward to a more enhanced Discord experience on Quest in 2026, with more details expected to be revealed in the coming months.
