PS Plus subscribers can play the Concord beta this weekend

Sony’s highly anticipated multiplayer shooter, Concord, is hosting a beta test this weekend. Originally, participation was limited to those who had pre-ordered the game. However, the eligibility criteria have now been expanded to include anyone with a PlayStation Plus subscription. This change may indicate lower than expected pre-order numbers.

Firewalk, the developers of Concord, have announced that all 16 launch Freegunners will be unlocked and available for play and customization during the Early Access and Open Beta. Players can choose from a variety of playstyles, whether it’s sniping, providing support, or diving head-first into the action. Additionally, Firewalk will be introducing the Freegunners of the North Star through a Vignette during the Early Access Beta.

Firewalk and Sony have set their sights on revolutionizing the multiplayer shooter genre with Concord. The game puts players in the shoes of the crew of the North Star, embarking on high-stakes missions against rival Freegunner crews. With 16 class-based characters, each with unique abilities and gear, Concord draws comparisons to Overwatch. However, the game distinguishes itself with persistent effects from gear and gadgets between rounds, such as traps, lane-blockers, and shield barriers that can shape the outcome of matches.

Concord also places a strong emphasis on storytelling, with weekly cinematic vignettes that delve into character development and the game’s overarching universe. This narrative-driven approach aims to set Concord apart from other games in the genre.

The official launch of Concord is scheduled for August 23rd, with the game being available both physically and digitally for £34.99 in the UK and $39.99 / €39.99 / ¥4,480 in other regions.
