One of Pokemon’s top spin-offs, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, is set to arrive on Nintendo Switch Online.
No need to worry if you missed a Nintendo Direct, because the renowned game developer recently revealed that the beloved title Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team will be joining its Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack lineup. This classic spin-off of the popular monster-catching series allows players to experience the game through the eyes of a Pokemon. Fans won’t have to wait long to dive into the very first installment, as it is scheduled to debut on Switch Online on August 9. It’s important to note that only Red Rescue Team will be available on Switch.
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team was originally released in 2005 (or 2006 for players in the US and EU) for the Game Boy Advance. Its counterpart, Blue Rescue Team, was simultaneously released on the Nintendo DS. While there hasn’t been a Virtual Console or Switch Online collection of DS games from Nintendo, Blue Rescue Team offers some advantages such as a second screen for map tracking and better sound quality. Unfortunately, the only way to play the game is by owning an original copy or purchasing it on the now-defunct Wii U Virtual Console.
Though Blue Rescue Team offers slight improvements over Red Rescue Team, both versions are highly regarded among fans. The Mystery Dungeon spin-offs are considered some of Pokemon’s finest, making the addition of the original game to Switch a reason for celebration.
