This week, Sony updated its PlayStation Plus Classics lineup with new arrivals, including the TimeSplitters trilogy – TimeSplitters, TimeSplitters 2, and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect, now fully playable on PS4 and PS5 consoles.
However, gamers soon noticed that the TimeSplitters games lacked trophy support, unlike other PS2 titles in the library. A PSN user reached out to Deep Silver, the IP holder and publisher, who mentioned that trophy support is being considered for a future patch, though no official release date has been set.
While some may wait for trophies before diving into the trilogy, the allure of revisiting these classic FPS games may be too strong to resist. The return of TimeSplitters to PlayStation also serves as a bittersweet reminder of the canceled TimeSplitters projects that never saw the light of day.
Developer Free Radical was working on TimeSplitters 4 before facing challenges, leading to the studio’s closure. Despite efforts to revive the series with projects like TimeSplitters Next and a TimeSplitters 2 remake, the future of TimeSplitters remains uncertain.
Let’s hope that TimeSplitters will have a chance to shine again in the hands of another studio, preserving its legacy for future generations.
