Ubisoft CEO Denies Pushing Agenda Amid Criticism of Assassin’s Creed Shadows
The CEO of Ubisoft Yves Guillemot recently made a statement emphasizing that Ubisoft’s primary focus is on creating entertainment for a wide audience, rather than pushing any specific agenda.
Guillemot’s statement comes in the wake of controversy surrounding the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows, with fans divided over the inclusion of historical figure Yasuke as the protagonist and concerns about historical accuracy.
While some critics argue that Yasuke’s significance is exaggerated to serve an agenda, defenders of the game suggest that the criticisms stem from racist perspectives.
Gamesradar+ provided the full statement from Guillemot, stating, “We remain committed to creating games for fans and players that everyone can enjoy.”
Although it is unclear if Guillemot’s statement was in direct response to the Assassin’s Creed Shadows backlash, it coincided with Ubisoft’s decision to delay the game’s release to February of the following year.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is scheduled to launch on February 14, 2024, on Windows PC (via the Ubisoft Store), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Amazon Luna.
