Operator XR Secures $3.7M VR Training Contract with Texas Department of Public Safety

An Australian company specializing in immersive training technology, xReality Group, has made headlines with its subsidiary Operator XR securing a lucrative contract with the Texas Department of Public Safety (Texas DPS) valued at up to AUD $5.71 million (~$3.7 million USD). This partnership will see the implementation of a cutting-edge VR police training system across the state.

Operator XR’s OP-2 system is designed to provide immersive, scenario-based training to enhance tactical decision-making, de-escalation techniques, multi-officer coordination, and mission planning. The Texas DPS, a prominent law enforcement agency serving 30 million residents, aims to leverage this system to improve officer readiness and safety through more realistic training simulations.

CEO of xReality Group, Wayne Jones, hailed the deal as a “strategic milestone,” emphasizing Texas DPS’s reputation as a key reference point for potential expansion into other state agencies. “This partnership underscores our growth strategy in the U.S. and validates the OP-2 platform for large-scale deployment,” Jones remarked.

The initial phase of the contract, valued at AUD $4.3 million ($2.8 million USD), will cover the delivery of OP-2 hardware and software, as well as onboarding and two years of technical support, scheduled to commence in Q2 2026.

Additionally, the contract includes optional support services for an extra three years, potentially bringing the total value to AUD $5.71 million (~$3.7 million USD). This development comes on the heels of a recent $2.1 million AUD (~$1.4 million USD) grant from the Australian Government’s ‘Industry Growth Program’ to accelerate the AI development roadmap for Operator XR’s tactical training platform.

The grant will be utilized to enhance features like real-time feedback, automated scenario generation, expanded manufacturing capabilities, and global certification within the next two years.
