OnePlus has announced that the rumored OnePlus Open 2 foldable device will not be released in 2025. Vale G., Product Manager for the OnePlus Open, shared this news in a post titled ‘A Note About Our Foldable Strategy for 2025 – Recalibrating for Innovation‘.
In the post, Vale mentioned that OnePlus has decided not to release a foldable device this year, but it does not mean they are completely exiting the foldable segment. He reassured fans by saying, “…our decision to pause on foldable for this generation does not signify a departure from the category”.
Pausing, not stopping
Despite the disappointment for fans, Vale emphasized that OnePlus will continue to explore foldable devices in the future. This decision coincides with Oppo’s introduction of the Oppo Find N5, which was expected to influence the OnePlus Open 2.

Oppo’s Find N5 will be launched soon, providing a glimpse of what could have been the OnePlus Open 2 in 2025.
Taking off the pressure
Vale praised Oppo’s Find N5, indicating a more unified approach between OnePlus and Oppo in product releases. This development also means that Samsung may face less competition in the foldable market this year.
The OnePlus Open 2 would have been the perfect foil to show the next Z Fold up
Samsung’s focus on AI and software innovation in the Galaxy S25 series suggests a similar approach for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. The absence of the OnePlus Open 2 leaves Samsung without a direct competitor in certain markets.
OnePlus’ foldable future
Without a foldable device in 2025, OnePlus’s next folding offering is a topic of speculation. If OnePlus re-enters the foldable market in 2026, they will face a landscape shaped by competitors like Samsung, Google, Honor, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo.
It remains to be seen how OnePlus will approach their future foldable devices, potentially drawing inspiration from Oppo’s designs. The evolution of the foldable segment will continue to influence OnePlus’s strategies in the coming years.
