After spending a month with my Oura Ring and the companion app for iOS, I have concluded that despite its beautiful app and helpful features, the Oura Ring may not be worth it unless you are specifically looking to track or improve your sleep. Keep reading below to find out why.
First impression
The setup of the Oura Ring and connecting it to the companion app was seamless. Simply take the ring out of the box, plug in the included USB-C charger, let it charge to full battery, put it on your finger, download the app, and connect the two.
Although the Oura Ring is marketed as durable and lightweight, it feels bulky due to the sensors inside that track biometrics. It’s beautiful but takes some getting used to, especially if you want to use its sleep analysis feature.

On the first morning, I checked the app to see how it tracked sleep, readiness, and activity. The Sleep Score, Readiness Score, and Activity Score provide insights based on various factors.
- Your Readiness Score: How ready are you for the day?
- Your Sleep Score: How well did you sleep last night?
- Your Activity Score: How are you balancing activity, inactivity, and rest?
After two weeks, I started to appreciate the reminders from the Oura Ring throughout the day. However, during illness, the Oura Ring’s lack of understanding impacted my scores.

As someone who works out regularly, the Oura Ring’s workout functionality was lacking compared to other devices.

After a month, I found the sleep analysis provided by Oura to be the most valuable feature. However, the subscription model and limited workout capabilities may not justify the price compared to other options like the Apple Watch.
