The feature that always kept me loyal to iPhones instead of switching to Android was MagSafe.
While magnetic cases could replicate the experience on Android phones, they often resulted in slow charging speeds and overheating batteries. With the introduction of Qi2-powered Pixelsnap technology on the latest Pixel 10 devices, Google has finally brought magnetic wireless charging to the Android ecosystem. The Nomad Stand One emerges as an ideal accessory to fully enjoy this innovation.
Upon setting up my Pixel 10 Pro, I was thrilled at the prospect of using a magnetic stand on my desk, similar to what I’ve been accustomed to with my iPhone for years.
Initially, I considered Google’s Pixelsnap Stand, but it fell short of expectations. The design, priced at £64.99/$69.99, lacked refinement. Its silicone-like surface easily attracted dirt, and despite the tech being housed within the removable puck, the overall setup felt surprisingly heavy at 405g.
I gravitated towards Google’s Pixelsnap Stand, but unfortunately, it left a lot to be desired
Comparatively, the Nomad Stand One boasts a more premium build with a combination of glass and metal, exuding a sleek and polished appearance. Weighing slightly more at 575g, the Stand One’s weight distribution ensures stability without any wobbling.
One standout feature of the Stand One is its base, which doubles as a 5W wireless charging pad for smaller accessories like wireless earbuds. This versatility makes it a convenient charging solution for multiple devices simultaneously.
Additionally, the Stand One’s Qi puck protrudes from the chassis, aiding in heat dissipation and preventing overheating issues commonly associated with wireless charging stands. The inclusion of a 2m braided cable adds to the overall quality of the product.
Despite its sturdy design, the Stand One’s fixed 21-degree tilt may limit adjustability for some users. However, this angle proves to be suitable for various tasks, including video calls.
With support for both Qi2 and MagSafe charging, the Stand One can deliver fast charging speeds up to 25W when paired with a 40W adapter (sold separately).
the Stand One’s Qi puck pokes out of the chassis, allowing it to dissipate heat better and not become uncomfortably warm
Unlike previous experiences where I had to disable certain features to prevent overheating while wirelessly charging, the Stand One eliminates such concerns. For users with an Apple Watch, the Stand One Max offers a 3-in-1 charging solution.
Overall, the Nomad Stand One proves to be a superior accessory for the Pixel 10, surpassing Google’s official Pixelsnap Stand. Priced at £99/$119, the Stand One may come at a premium, but its quality and functionality make it a worthwhile investment.
