Nintendo Switch 2 has reportedly ended up in some online folks' hands early, but don't worry, it currently looks to only be "a very nice paperweight"

Exciting news! Rumors of the Nintendo Switch 2 being out in the wild ahead of schedule have surfaced, with eager internet users showcasing unboxing videos of the new console. However, it seems that while the Switch 2 is physically present, users are unable to play games on it just yet due to an upcoming update.

IGN recently highlighted a video from YouTuber a2dubai, who revealed the unboxing of what appears to be the Switch 2 before its official release date of June 5. The video was later taken down due to a copyright claim by Web Capio, a company specializing in anti-piracy services.

In response to a viewer’s request for more videos, a2dubai explained that Nintendo had locked the Switch 2, requiring an update to unlock its full functionality, which will be available on June 5.

With no gameplay footage available yet, reports suggest that a second individual has also obtained a Switch 2 early, encountering a message prompting an update before being able to play Switch 1 games.

If these early Switch 2 units do require an update before use, they may serve as elegant paperweights until the official release date, as noted by Stealth40k. Could this be a clever marketing strategy by Nintendo to build anticipation for the new console?
