Nintendo has publicly announced its sales projections for the launch of the Switch 2, with analysts suggesting that the company may be underestimating its potential. Despite this, Nintendo is still anticipating impressive sales numbers for its latest hardware. The company’s president has also mentioned the possibility of a price increase for the console, depending on the US tariff situation.
In its forecast for the upcoming fiscal year ending in March 2026, Nintendo is expecting to sell 15 million units of the Switch 2 during its launch window. Along with this, the company aims to sell 45 million games within the same period, setting a high bar for its first year sales. Surpassing the original Switch, which sold 14.87 million units in its debut year, is the goal for the Switch 2.
Despite the optimistic projections, many analysts believe that Nintendo is being cautious due to the uncertain impact of US tariffs. Daniel Ahmad, an analyst from Niko Partners, commented on Twitter that Nintendo’s forecast is conservative, taking into account factors like tariffs, pricing, and production challenges.
Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has not ruled out the possibility of a price increase for the Switch 2 if tariffs significantly affect the company’s assumptions. The priority for now is to promote the new hardware, but price adjustments may be considered depending on changing circumstances.
With fans already calling for a price drop, any potential price increase due to tariffs could lead to backlash. How do you feel about the upcoming Switch 2? Share your thoughts below.
