Nintendo’s Strategy to Prevent Scalping of Switch’s Successor
Nintendo has revealed its plan to prevent the scalping issues that plagued the launch of the Switch’s successor. The key approach is to increase production of consoles, a move made possible by resolving component supply issues.
During the initial release of the Switch, high demand exceeded supply, creating an opportunity for scalpers to buy consoles in bulk and resell them at inflated prices. By ramping up production and addressing supply chain challenges, Nintendo aims to eliminate the scalping market.
In a recent investor Q&A, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa emphasized the importance of meeting customer demand through sufficient production. He also mentioned exploring additional measures within legal boundaries to combat scalping.
Furukawa expressed confidence in overcoming previous semiconductor shortages to ensure an ample supply of the successor model without significant production delays. This proactive approach aims to mitigate scalping issues and meet consumer needs.
The anticipation for the Nintendo Switch 2 is high, following the success of the original Switch since its 2017 launch. The new console is expected to make a significant impact on the gaming industry and sales performance, setting the stage for the future of Nintendo’s console market.
