Rumors are circulating that Apple is preparing to release a more affordable MacBook in the coming weeks. While many details have been leaked about the internal specs, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has confirmed that Apple will continue to prioritize quality materials for the exterior.
There was speculation that Apple might opt for a plastic design to lower costs, harkening back to the plastic MacBooks of the past. However, Gurman’s newsletter reveals that the new MacBook will maintain Apple’s signature aluminum chassis, achieved through a new cost-effective manufacturing process.
Apple’s upcoming MacBook, codenamed J700, will feature an aluminum chassis, not plastic. The new manufacturing process allows for quicker production of the unibody design, maintaining the premium quality Apple is known for.

Gurman also confirms that the new MacBook will be available in vibrant colors, a departure from the usual neutral tones of Apple’s laptops. This colorful approach echoes the design language of the iBook G3 and the recent 24-inch iMac.
The report suggests that the new MacBook will be powered by an “iPhone chip” and feature a slightly smaller display, catering to students and businesses. The launch is expected to coincide with Apple’s upcoming events in March, where several new budget-friendly devices are anticipated.
