Korea-Based Studio Pixelity Developing XR Game Based on Neon Genesis Evangelion
Korea-based studio Pixelity recently announced that it is working on an XR game inspired by the popular ’90s anime series, Neon Genesis Evangelion. The studio has secured an official licensing agreement with Studio Khara in Japan for this project.
The XR game will be released in three parts, following the storyline of all 26 episodes of the anime. Pixelity has confirmed that the first installment is already in production and is scheduled for a 2026 release.
For fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion, the anime is a significant cultural phenomenon that had a major impact on the anime industry in Japan during the 1990s. The story is set in 2015 and revolves around Shinji Ikari, who becomes a pilot for the giant combat weapon Evangelion to defend humanity against mysterious creatures known as Angels.
While specific platforms for the game have not been disclosed yet, players can expect an immersive XR experience that allows them to explore various locations and participate in dynamic battles while following the events of Neon Genesis Evangelion. The game will also feature collaboration elements with beloved characters from the series.
Pixelity, founded in 2017, has a track record of creating VR games such as Puttzzle, Crazyworld VR, and Rise of the Fallen. The studio is currently working on two other VR projects, The Patcher and Teahouse of Souls.
This upcoming XR game is not the first time Neon Genesis Evangelion has been adapted for VR experiences. In 2017, Bandai Namco-backed VR studio ‘Project i Can’ released Evangelion VR: The Throne of Souls at VR ZONE in Shinjuku, Japan, offering a limited-time experience for fans.
