Capcom has recently unveiled three informative videos for Monster Hunter Wilds, the highly anticipated addition to the popular monster hunting series. These videos highlight the essential gameplay elements for the Seikret and Slinger, as well as introduce the new Focus Mode.
Let’s delve into the core mechanics:
The first video covers the basics, including the different states of a hunter’s weapon – sheathed and drawn. The Seikret, a new mountable creature in the game, is showcased as a helpful companion that can lead you to your target monster, while also providing opportunities to heal, gather resources, and switch between weapons. The Slinger, a standard tool for hunters in Monster Hunter Wilds, offers versatile functions such as shooting ammo and grappling distant items or environmental elements.
Introducing Focus Mode, a novel combat technique that allows for precise aiming of attacks and guards. This feature enhances player control by aligning movements with the camera direction, emphasizing the importance of targeting monster wounds for increased damage output. Additionally, Focus Mode enables special Focus Strikes to be executed during combat.
The Great Sword, a classic weapon in the Monster Hunter series, is showcased in one of the videos. Despite its slower pace and heavier weight, the Great Sword can be effectively utilized for hit-and-run tactics, guarding, and delivering powerful blows with the assistance of Focus Mode.
Monster Hunter Wilds is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2025. Stay tuned for upcoming trailers, with the next reveal expected during Opening Night Live for Gamescom 2024 later this month.
