'Minecraft' Officially Drops VR Support, But There Are Still a Few Ways to Play

Last year, Mojang announced their plans to discontinue support for PSVR and PC VR headsets by March 2025. In the latest Bedrock update, VR support has officially been removed, although there are still unofficial ways to continue playing Minecraft in VR.

With the release of Bedrock Edition 1.21.80 patch notes, Mojang has completely eliminated VR gameplay on both PC and PSVR versions, including solo and multiplayer modes.

However, players can still enjoy the game with unofficial mods that have received more attention than the official versions. One popular mod for PC VR headsets is Vivecraft, which is compatible with Minecraft Java versions 1.7.10, and 1.10 through 1.20.1.

Vivecraft supports single player, LAN multiplayer, and server multiplayer. Although players cannot join Mojang’s official Minecraft servers or cross-play with other Bedrock versions, such as Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, or mobile, the mod does support Forge mods for enhanced visuals and gameplay modes.

For Quest users, the only option to play Minecraft in VR is by installing the unofficial QuestCraft mod, which includes Vivecraft and Pojlib in a standalone port of Minecraft’s Java edition. Similar to Vivecraft for PC VR, there is no cross-play with other Bedrock versions.

To learn more about setting up these mods, YouTuber ‘Diamond VR’ provides a helpful recap.

Unfortunately, PSVR 2 users are already aware that official support from Mojang is unlikely. However, players with a VR-ready PC can connect their PSVR 2 to their computer and play using Vivecraft with Sony’s adapter or the appropriate GPU.

While there are numerous Minecraft clones and block-building games available, none have been as highly recommended as these two mods, which are free and require minimal setup to run smoothly.
