Onward (2020), the popular tactical mil-sim shooter from Meta-owned Downpour Interactive, is gearing up for a major 2.0 update. Fans have been eagerly awaiting this update, especially since the game’s last significant update was almost a year ago.
Despite the lack of major updates, Onward has not been forgotten. The studio behind the game has been working on new content, and the upcoming 2.0 update is set to be the biggest one yet. Meta has promised “a massive graphical overhaul across weapons and utilities,” a new Operator system with 20 characters, and new map content.
Following some challenges in the gaming industry, including layoffs at Downpour Interactive in 2023 and the departure of founder and CEO Dante Buckley, Onward continues to attract a dedicated fan base. Known for its realistic squad-based gameplay and attention to detail in replicating real-world weaponry, the game was initially released on Steam in Early Access in 2016 and later on the original Oculus Quest in 2020.
For those interested in experiencing Onward, it is available on the Horizon Store page for Quest 2 and above, as well as on Steam for PC VR headsets. The regular price for the game is $25.
