Mark Rabkin, Meta’s VP of XR, has announced his departure from the company after leading its XR efforts for over four years. Rabkin is leaving due to family health issues.
In his public announcement, Rabkin stated, “devs and fans [of XR]—I will leave you in good hands. More to come.” This suggests that a new person will soon take over his role.
During his time as Meta’s VP of XR, Rabkin played a key role in the launch of Quest 3, Quest 3S, and various platform developments such as Quest’s software rebranding to Horizon OS, the integration of App Lab into the Horizon OS store, and a strong focus on mixed reality and spatial computing on the company’s headsets.
Rabkin has been with Meta for a total of 18 years, starting in 2007 as a backend infrastructure C++ engineer. Over the years, he worked his way up to VP positions and joined the XR division in 2019 as the VP of XR Experiences before eventually becoming the VP of XR overall.
