Meta has issued a note on its Quest support site, acknowledging a “software update issue” that has been causing problems for Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest 3S headsets. While the majority of users can now use their headsets normally, the company is actively working to resolve the issue for all affected individuals.
This update from Meta is particularly significant for owners of Quest 2 and 3 who have faced challenges with receiving support for their out-of-warranty devices. Some Reddit users have reported receiving confirmation emails from Meta about receiving service for the issue, even though their warranties had expired. Additionally, a Meta support forum community manager mentioned that new support guidelines will be provided to assist users moving forward.
On December 6th, Meta initially addressed software update issues impacting “some new Quest 3S devices,” without specifically mentioning Quest 2 or 3 headsets or the software version involved. This information was not included in an earlier version of the support site message that was recently reported by UploadVR. On December 9th, Meta announced the rollout of the latest update, Meta Quest v71, which introduced improvements such as a redesigned virtual desktop display connection method and keyboard passthrough support in virtual environments.
