Konami has officially announced that Metal Gear Online will not be returning, despite speculation from its recent teaser at Summer Games Fest. Instead, fans can look forward to Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater introducing a new multiplayer experience in the MGS universe called Fox Hunt.

Fox Hunt is a brand new mode that focuses on hiding and utilizing camouflage, drawing inspiration from the popular “prop hunt” subgenre. Konami revealed that they considered developing another Metal Gear Online title, but ultimately decided against it due to the evolving landscape of modern multiplayer games.

But that’s not all that was unveiled at Konami Press Start. The publisher also introduced a Snake vs. Monkey crossover mode exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Steam users, while Xbox players can enjoy a unique Snake vs. Bomberman mode. Additionally, the Secret Theatre feature will make a return, allowing players to collect special clips and videos from enemies in-game.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a highly anticipated remake of the 2004 stealth action prequel, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Developed by one of Konami’s internal studios in collaboration with Virtuos, the game is being rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. This remake will preserve the beloved story, characters, and level designs of Snake Eater while enhancing visuals and introducing gameplay improvements to cater to modern audiences.

Set during the Cold War era, MGS3 takes players back to the tensions between Russia and the United States, with Naked Snake (Big Boss) embarking on a mission behind enemy lines armed only with a survival knife.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is scheduled to launch on August 28th, 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
