Meta Sold Over 7 Million Smart Glasses Last Year, Effectively Tripling Sales in 2025 Alone

EssilorLuxottica has announced its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2025, revealing that the company has sold over seven million smart glasses in the past year.

The French-Italian eyewear giant has been collaborating with Meta to produce smart glasses since the launch of the original Ray-Ban Stories in 2021.

In its latest financial report, EssilorLuxottica disclosed that it has tripled its sales of smart glasses, reaching over seven million units sold last year.

In February 2025, the company celebrated the sale of two million Ray-Ban (Gen 1) smart glasses since their debut in late 2023.

2025 was a significant year for EssilorLuxottica as it unveiled a range of new smart glasses in collaboration with Meta. These include the updated Ray-Ban Meta glasses, Oakley Meta HSTN, Oakley Meta Vanguard, and the groundbreaking $800 Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses, featuring a heads-up display for the first time.

Aside from its smart glasses division, EssilorLuxottica highlighted its transformation into a leading medtech and big-data group in 2025. This evolution was driven by the success of its Nuance Audio hearing-aid glasses and AI-driven healthcare platform.

While EssilorLuxottica and Meta currently lead the market in smart glasses, the competition in XR wearables is just beginning. Many companies view smart glasses as the first step towards developing all-day AR glasses in the near future, with potential players including Google, Samsung, and possibly Apple.
