Anduril Partners with Meta to Build AR and VR Systems for US Military
In a surprising turn of events, Palmer Luckey’s military technology company Anduril has officially teamed up with Meta to develop cutting-edge AR and VR systems for the US military.
Luckey, known for founding Oculus in 2012 and later creating Anduril, has a history of pushing the boundaries of virtual reality technology. After leaving Meta, Luckey delved into the defense sector with Anduril, focusing on XR tech alongside drones and sensors. In a strategic move, Anduril recently took over Microsoft’s Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) program, aiming to provide AR helmets for the US Army.

Now, Anduril and Meta are joining forces to create unparalleled AR and VR systems for military applications. Their collaboration aims to enhance warfighters’ perception and streamline control of autonomous platforms on the battlefield. The project leverages both companies’ expertise in advanced hardware, software, and artificial intelligence, with a focus on cost-effective solutions for the military.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the partnership, Luckey states, “My mission has long been to turn warfighters into technomancers, and the products we are building with Meta do just that.” Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg and CTO Andrew “Boz” Bosworth also affirm their support for the venture, signaling a renewed relationship with Luckey.

The collaboration between Anduril and Meta is expected to focus on advancing the AR helmet developed for the IVAS program, a significant initiative with a $20 billion budget. With Anduril leading the project and Meta bringing its technological expertise to the table, the partnership aims to revolutionize military operations with state-of-the-art AR and VR systems.
