Meta has introduced a new way to enjoy your own content on Quest, but the experience is not as immersive as a proper home theater setup. However, the company is now exploring the idea of creating a dedicated home theater environment.
Mark Rabkin, VP of Horizon OS and Quest, mentioned in a recent X post that Meta is working on developing a home theater environment for Horizon OS, which will be the operating system for both Quest and third-party headsets.
According to Rabkin, the team is experimenting with lighting, effects, and sound to create the best possible experience. This initiative follows Meta’s previous attempts at creating theater environments, such as Oculus Cinema and Oculus Video.

Meta’s previous attempts, including Horizon Home on Quest, lacked key features of a dedicated home theater app. These efforts often redirected users to alternative platforms like Bigscreen and Skybox for a more seamless viewing experience.
While Meta’s upcoming theater environment may not integrate various streaming services into a single platform, the focus on providing an easily accessible way to enjoy personal content in a more immersive manner is promising.
