Under Meta’s ownership, studios like Beat Games, known for the hit game Beat Saber and acquired in 2019, continued to evolve their flagship title with new features and content. Despite regular updates and DLC releases, some promised features like custom sabers and a mixed reality mode remain undeveloped. The recent announcement of discontinuing updates for the PSVR/2 version of Beat Saber indicates a shift in focus towards the game’s future.
Sanzaru Games, acquired in 2020 for their success with Asgard’s Wrath, released a sequel optimized for Quest platforms, showcasing impressive visual fidelity. While the studio’s final content update hints at future projects, details remain undisclosed.
Conversely, Ready at Dawn, known for Lone Echo and Echo VR, faced closure in 2024 despite releasing Lone Echo II and building a strong community around Echo VR. The studio’s shutdown marked a disappointing end after Meta’s acquisition in 2020.
Downpour Interactive, known for Onward and acquired in 2021, experienced layoffs and eventual closure in 2025, following the release of a significant update for Onward. The game’s multiplayer servers remain active, but the studio is no longer operational.
