Mario Party rival, LEGO Party, confirms September release date

LEGO Party, the highly anticipated multiplayer party game, is gearing up for its official launch next month. The game is set to be released on September 30th on various platforms including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

First revealed earlier this year at the Summer Games Fest, LEGO Party is a fun-filled experience that lives up to its name. Developed by SMG Studio and published by Fictions, this licensed LEGO video game throws four players into an exciting board game-style challenge where they must compete to collect the most gold bricks.

The developer, known for their work on the popular Moving Out series, seems to be drawing inspiration from Nintendo’s beloved Mario Party franchise. In LEGO Party, players navigate the board and encounter over 60 mini games as they progress.

What makes this game stand out is its unique LEGO universe theme. Instead of relying on popular franchises like Star Wars or Marvel, LEGO Party features scenes and characters from classic LEGO sets such as Space, Pirates, and Ninjago. Fans of LEGO will enjoy collecting various character customization options, with over a billion possible minifigure combinations.

It’s refreshing to see more experimental LEGO video games emerging that move away from traditional franchise tie-ins. While developer Traveller’s Tales produced numerous LEGO games based on popular IPs in the past, the formula was starting to feel repetitive. The recent release of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in 2022 introduced new elements like an open-world setting and free camera controls, revitalizing the LEGO game experience.

Recent additions to the LEGO gaming lineup include titles like LEGO 2K Drive, LEGO Bricktales, and the upcoming LEGO Voyagers, alongside Epic’s free-to-play LEGO Fortnite. It will be interesting to see where LEGO Party stands among these diverse offerings in the gaming space.
