Mario Kart World began development in 2017 as a game for the original Switch but evolved into a game for Switch 2 to incorporate new technology. The developers shared insights about the game’s central character – Cow.

Cow, the ruler of Moo Moo Meadows, takes center stage in Mario Kart World, captivating fans and diverting attention from concerns about pricing or upgrading to Switch 2.

Nintendo recently released a detailed interview with the Mario Kart World team, discussing the game’s development process and the switch to Switch 2. The interview is divided into four parts, so grab your favorite drink before diving in.

Producer Kosuke Yabuki shared, “We started prototyping Mario Kart World in March 2017, aiming to create a game with a large open world setting, departing from the traditional course-based gameplay of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.”

Programming director Kenta Sato mentioned the challenges faced during development for the original Switch and the relief of transitioning to Switch 2 for enhanced graphics and gameplay possibilities.

The team also shed light on the creation of the iconic character Cow, a unique addition to the Mario Kart series that brings humor and creativity to the game.

Art director Masaaki Ishikawa highlighted the importance of detailed graphics on Switch 2 and the freedom it provided to enrich the game’s artistic elements.

Overall, Cow’s presence in Mario Kart World adds a new dimension to the game, showcasing the team’s innovation and commitment to delivering a memorable gaming experience.
