French Startup Lynx Overcomes Funding Challenges to Ship R-1 Headsets
French startup Lynx has faced hurdles in getting its R-1 mixed reality standalone headsets out the door due to financial issues. However, CEO Stan Larroque recently announced that a batch of R-1 headsets will be shipping soon.
Larroque revealed that an additional 400 units will be distributed between July and August after resolving delays with assembler Compal. He described the past 12 months as “excruciating” due to fundraising challenges in Europe.
Despite setbacks, Lynx has secured new funding partnerships, including a collaboration with a “big financial US partner.” The company remains optimistic about its product and roadmap, with interest from defense, industrial, and medical sectors.
Outside of its successful Kickstarter campaign, Lynx has raised a total of $6.8 million in funding, with the most recent Series A round securing $4 million from Somnium Space in 2022.
Similar to Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro, Lynx R-1 offers mixed reality experiences with passthrough sensors and a Snapdragon XR2 chipset. The company aims to make it a versatile and open device for various industries.
