LG’s lightweight Gram laptops get new Intel chips and offline AI features

LG has recently unveiled new additions to its ultra-light Gram and Gram Pro laptop series, introducing cloud-based and on-device AI-powered features that set them apart from the current Gram models.

The 16-inch Gram Pro, being the first Copilot Plus PC in the LG Gram lineup, stands out as the sole model utilizing the Intel Lunar Lake Core Ultra V-Series processors. On the other hand, the 17-inch Gram Pro and 16-inch 2-in-1 variants are powered by Intel’s Arrow Lake Core Ultra H-Series processors.

Featuring 2,560 x 1,600 displays, up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory, and up to 2TB Gen4 NVMe SSDs, the LG Gram Pro will be available in both 17-inch and 16-inch models. The 16-inch Gram Pro and the 16-inch LG Gram Pro 2-in-1 will come equipped with Intel Arc GPUs, while the 17-inch Gram Pro will sport an Nvidia GeForce RTX4050 graphics card.

Moreover, the Gram Chat On-Device feature, driven by a language model from LG AI Research, enables offline functionalities such as Time Travel, allowing users to quickly revisit recently accessed web pages, documents, videos, and audio files. LG’s software enhancements are reminiscent of Microsoft’s Copilot Plus suite and Apple Intelligence, promising a competitive user experience.

LG also introduces Gram Chat Cloud, powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o, providing detailed responses sourced from extensive web-based datasets while seamlessly integrating with calendar and email services. However, this feature requires an active internet connection and will only be complimentary for the initial year.

Additionally, all new Gram laptops support LG’s Gram Link 2.0, facilitating streamlined document and file sharing with other PCs and iOS or Android smartphones. Notably, incoming phone calls can be answered directly through the Gram laptops, eliminating the need to switch between devices temporarily.

Looking ahead, LG plans to introduce its entry-level Gram Book to the US market in the upcoming year. Equipped with an Intel Core i5 processor, this model features a 15.6-inch 60Hz full HD display, a 720p webcam, and configurations of up to 1TB of SSD storage and 16GB of DDR4 memory.
