Despite being off the air for four years, fans of Insecure are still finding it hard to move on. In a recent interview with People, show star and creator Issa Rae revealed that there are still fans pleading with her to change the ending. The series concludes with Issa’s character reconciling with her on-again, off-again partner Lawrence (Jay Ellis), a decision that many fans were not happy with.
“People have asked me to reshoot the ending, which is insane because they didn’t agree with the choice Issa makes in the end,” Rae shared in the interview. “I constantly get requests for a sixth season — even this morning [Thursday, Jan. 30]. I had to make a post because my account got hacked this morning. Unfortunately, I fell for some phishing scams and now I can’t access my account. And I barely even use it. So if you see strange tweets from me, just know it’s not me [and I said], ‘Someone, please help’ on my Insta Story. ‘I got hacked on Twitter.’ And someone responded with, ‘I’ll help you if you give me three more seasons of Insecure.’ So I’m like, y’all can’t even take me seriously.”
Rae expressed that she was ready to let go of the show, which had a run of five seasons. “The pressure was immense — it was terrifying. Ending a show and facing people’s opinions,” the creator shared with Stephen Colbert. “You don’t want to disappoint, and we’re on HBO, which, you know, had another controversial finale that sparked strong reactions. People would come up to me saying, ‘Girl, I can’t wait for the final season, just don’t Game of Thrones it.”
