There has been a lot of discussion surrounding the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, including its controversial pricing and new features. Former PlayStation executive, Shuhei Yoshida, recently shared his thoughts on the console, suggesting that it may signal a shift in Nintendo’s traditional identity.
Regardless of whether you agree with Yoshida’s assessment, it’s refreshing to have news that doesn’t solely focus on financial aspects or CEO antics.
During an interview with Easy Allies, Yoshida expressed his views on the Nintendo Switch 2 and its implications for the company’s identity. He mentioned that the new console represents a departure from Nintendo’s traditional focus on innovative experiences.
“Switch 2, as we all anticipated, is a better Switch, right? It’s a larger screen, more powerful processor, higher resolution, 4K 120 FPS. They even had a hardware person starting the stream, like other platforms do, right? And because it’s a better Switch, the core premise of the whole Switch 2 is ‘we made things better’, and that’s something other companies have been doing all the time,” Yoshida stated.
Yoshida’s comments suggest that he was not entirely impressed by the incremental improvements of the Switch 2, such as the mouse joy-con functionality and GameChat feature. He seemed to imply that Nintendo could have pushed the boundaries further with their new console.
