iOS 18 Will Tell You If Your Charger is Too Slow

Exploring the latest features of iOS 18 keeps us all busy. One feature that stands out is the alert for using a slow charger.

With chargers scattered around the house, it’s easy to lose track of which one is being used. The new feature in iOS 18 comes to the rescue. When plugged in, navigate to the Settings app and select Battery. If a slow charger is detected, you’ll see an orange “Slow Charger” notification. The graph bars will also turn orange to indicate slower charging than optimal. Tapping on the indicator will redirect you to an Apple Support page about charging.

For users with iPhone 15 or awaiting iPhone 16, iOS 18 introduces the ability to set a preferred charging limit. This feature builds upon the Optimized Battery Charging introduced in iOS 13, which prevents charging above 80% until necessary. The new 80% Limit option allows users to cap charging at 80% for prolonged battery life.

iOS 18 on iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models now enables adjusting the charge limit to 85%, 90%, and 95%. While Apple recommends an 80% limit to preserve battery health, the flexibility to customize the limit caters to individual routines.

Although not the flashiest feature of iOS 18, monitoring charging habits contributes to battery longevity. By avoiding charging beyond 80%, users can ensure better battery performance over time. Stay informed on when and how long to charge your iPhone with this new functionality.
