Intel laptop CPUs are crashing, too, as the company remains silent

Concerns Arise Over Intel’s 13th and 14th-Gen CPUs

The stability issues affecting Intel’s latest Core CPUs have raised eyebrows in the tech community. Initially reported in high-end desktops, the problem seems to have spread to laptops as well. Despite ongoing investigations by Intel, an official statement has yet to be released, leaving many users in the dark.

Alderon Games recently joined the chorus of criticism, pointing out that even laptops powered by Raptor Lake chips are experiencing crashes. This revelation indicates a much wider scope of the issue than previously thought.

Founder Matthew Cassells revealed that the instability is not limited to specific CPU models, with reports now surfacing across various product lines. While early focus was on desktop processors, it’s becoming evident that no 13th or 14th-gen CPU is immune.

Most of the reported crashes occur during gaming sessions, particularly with demanding titles using Unreal Engine 5. Other CPU-intensive tasks like Handbrake and Cinebench are also affected. Cassells has even suggested a recall of the faulty CPUs due to the disruptions caused to their operations.

Additionally, Level1Techs highlighted similar issues with game servers using W680 chipsets and Raptor Lake Core i9 CPUs. The widespread nature of the problem hints at a potential socket-related issue.

Intel’s attempts to address the problem through BIOS settings adjustments have had some success in mitigating crashes. However, reports of ongoing issues persist, even after users have tried underclocking their systems.

Laptop Crash

While Intel recently fixed a microcode algorithm glitch, it was not the root cause of the instability problems. With new CPU releases on the horizon, the pressure is mounting on Intel to resolve these issues before the launch of Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake processors.
